Qualifications
Previous experience working with children is desirable. Aides must have their own transportation and work permit obtained from their school if under 18 years of age. Aides may be as young as 14 years of age, provided they are mature and responsible. Aides should be comfortable near live animals including: reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and insects, capable of sustaining physical activity including lengthy nature hikes, and capable of carrying camp boxes and supplies up to 25 pounds. Interest in natural history, science, and outdoor education is helpful.
Responsibilities

Report promptly and appropriately dressed by 8:30 a.m. each day.

Assist teacher by helping prepare materials and campsite each morning.

Clean camp area and kits after camp each day.

Actively assist in supervising up to 16 children each day.

Help with all crafts, experiments, outdoor and indoor games and activities.

Help supervise the children at all times.
Employment and Community Service Options
YSI offers three employment/community service options, and requires that camp aides make a commitment to work a minimum number of weeks:
Option 1: New Volunteer (3 week minimum commitment).
Option 2: Returning Volunteer in good standing (3 week minimum commitment).
Option 3: Applying for paid position. To be eligible, you must be a returning YSI Camp Aide in good standing (3 week minimum commitment).
