The Youth Science Institute (YSI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing and enriching science and environmental education in schools and the community. YSI has been providing children and families with hands-on educational programs since 1953. Each year YSI educates over 30,000 children in schools, camps and at three nature centers.
Job Description and Responsibilities:
The Program Administrator is a support position reporting to the Education Director. The administrator assists with all aspects of managing Youth Science Institute’s (YSI’s) school, after-school and summer programs. Primary activities include the registration and data management of YSI’s diverse programs. This includes the preparation and management of documents, curricula, materials, reimbursements and expense reports. Coordination with school teachers, parents, the public and YSI staff is ongoing throughout the year. In the summer, the administrator also supports YSI summer camps by processing registrations, hiring, scheduling and supervising camp aides, preparing materials, rosters, assisting parents, children, YSI instructors and aides. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience with database, word processing and spreadsheet software
- Excellent phone skills and a personable, helpful, friendly attitude
- Must be detail-oriented, accurate, highly organized and flexible
- Ability to interface daily with teachers, parents, children, the public and staff
- Able to work with, and respond to, the public, under pressure
- Able to handle multiple projects and phone calls in a busy environment
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving and training skills
- Experience supervising teenagers and adults in a highly professional manner
- Able to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent written, organizational and verbal communication skills
- Must have valid California drivers license and car insurance
- Must complete DOJ fingerprinting and TB testing requirements
Terms of Employment:
Thirty hours per week
Preferred schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. M-F
Benefits include medical/dental, holidays, paid vacation, and access to a 403(b) plan
Salary is $23, 000 - $26,000 per year, DOE
