The Youth Science Institute (YSI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing and enriching science and environmental education in schools and the community. YSI has been providing children and families with hands-on educational programs since 1953. Each year YSI educates over 30,000 children in schools, camps and at three nature centers.
Responsibilities:
Teach hands-on environmental, biological, and physical science programs to pre-K through 12th grade children. Programs are conducted at all three YSI nature centers and schools within Santa Clara Valley. Summer programs are taught during the months of June, July, and August. Special assignments may include curriculum development and assistance in creating, augmenting and refurbishing teaching materials.
Qualifications:
- Self-motivated, flexible and energetic individual with ability to teach children.
- Good planning, organizational and communication skills.
- Biological, natural and/or physical science coursework helpful.
- Degree in science, education or environmental studies preferred.
- Capable of sustaining physical activity including nature hikes.
- Willingness to be trained to handle live, small animals.
- Must have car, insurance, and valid driver's license.
- Willingness to work flexible schedule.

Youth Science Institute Nature Centers
- Alum Rock Park in San Jose
- Sanborn Park in Saratoga
- Vasona Lake Park in Los Gatos
- Private and public schools within Santa Clara Valley
- Occasional out of county programs may be scheduled
Hours and Pay:
Hourly wage is $12.00 - $14.70 depending on education and experience.
Non-Summer hours vary up to 20 per week.
Summer hours vary up to 35 per week.
