The Youth Science Institute (YSI) is a non-profit Silicon Valley leader in hands-on science education. We partner with nature to teach science to 30,000 pre-school through 12th grade students annually. YSI’s three Science and Nature Centers are located at Alum Rock Park in East San Jose, Sanborn Park in Saratoga, and Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Each summer about 2000 kids enjoy half day camps.
Responsibilities:
Summer Instructors teach week-long, half-day outdoor camps to children in Pre-K to 6th grades. Camps meet at all three YSI centers, Monday through Friday, from June 16 to August 15. Camps meet from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 or 1:00 p.m. depending on the age level. Instructors start at 8:00-8:30 a.m. each morning and work three to seven weeks during the summer.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree or degree in progress
- Must enjoy or have experience with nature, science and teaching children
- Excellent planning, organizational and communication skills
- Capable of sustaining physical activity, including hour-long nature hikes
- Ability to be around live, small animals of diverse species
- Must teach week-long, half-day camps for at least 3 weeks in summer
- Car, car insurance, valid driver’s license; recent TB test, fingerprint required

Hours and Pay:
Hourly wage is $12.00 - $14.00
Some additional prep time is also paid.
Half-day camps occur Monday - Friday.
